Alpha Chi Service Projects 2023-2024
Alpha Chi Cares-Ongoing 2023-2024
The goal is to continue our volunteer program with all the local public elementary schools in our three communities. Groups of members will volunteer twice a month on each campus.
Alpha Chi volunteers will do tasks for the teachers include copying, laminating, make displays, die-cutting shapes, creating packets and other support activities and hopefully introduce DKG to fellow educators!
Pittsburg Avenue Baptist Church Community Food Pantry-September 11, 2023, Llano
The Pittsburg Avenue Baptist Church provides nourishing meals to the community several times per week. Visitors are also able to get some food and critical personal items based on their need.
Alpha Chi will collect needed items.
Rainbow Room -October 9, 2023, Marble Falls
Rainbow Room bridges the gap between limited government resources and the growing needs of children and families in the care of Child Protective Services (CPS). As an in-house emergency resource center, they provide necessity items like diapers, formula, and clothing to children and families. They also help ease the transition into adulthood and independence for youth involved in the child welfare system through mentoring support, life-skills training, and financial education. One hundred percent of any money or items donated go directly to the children and/or family. The most basic needs of a family in crisis are often unavailable, and caseworkers typically cannot provide the necessities. This program will keep families together through traumatic times and can be equally crucial in developing a helping relationship between workers and clients’ families. The Rainbow Room is located at the CPS office and serves Blanco, Burnet, and Llano counties. Alpha Chi will collect needed items.
Meals On Wheels-November 13, 2023, Burnet
By providing hot, nutritious meals to senior home bound clients, Meals on Wheels enables them to live independently longer, and they can "age in place". Through good nutrition, client conditions are sustainable and continued independence is achieved. Meals on Wheels also provide hot, nutritionally balanced meals to seniors at senior centers, as well as activities, socialization opportunities and well-checks. The program, along with local partners, not only provides meals, but also referrals to and resources from other senior services.
Alpha Chi will collect monetary donations and paint cards at our meeting to go to clients with their meal delivery. DKG Convention merchandise will be sold with funds to go to Meals on Wheels
