WELCOME FROM OUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Greetings from the Alpha Chi Chapter, Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International. The Alpha Chi Chapter, Number 46, Area VII, was organized March 10, 1934, by Dr.
Annie Webb Blanton at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas. Alpha Chi is following the theme of Texas
State Organization President Shalan Inmon - "Journey: Which way will you go?" Our vision statement
is the same as DKG International: Leading Women Educators Impacting Education Worldwide.
Alpha Chi is composed of active and retired teachers living in Burnet and Llano Counties. We have five
regular meetings each year, held on the second Monday of the month in October, November, January,
February, and April, rotating among the three cities of Burnet, Llano and Marble Falls. Three of these
meetings, as decided by the Executive Committee, are dinner meetings. Local meetings in August and
March help keep our chapter running smoothly. Our September meeting alternates between the Area VII
Workshop and our chapter’s own Yett Seminar.
Our group consists of seventy-four truly exceptional women, covering a wide range of ages and life
experiences. They are involved in many activities in our communities and bring this interest back to our
chapter. We actively support, through contributions of time and resources, activities and organizations
which contribute to the strengthening of people in need. In keeping with the purposes of Delta Kappa
Gamma, we award Grant-in-Aid scholarships to deserving future teachers or women pursuing a graduate
degree, with the recipients chosen from among our three communities.
Programs at our meetings are informative, useful, and thought-provoking. Our own members provide many
of the programs, while some are presented by community leaders. The quality of our programs and the fellowship
offered at our meetings has kept our monthly attendance at around fifty members.
Alpha Chi is proud to be a part of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, which promotes the professional
and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Through International Conventions we are
able to meet fellow educators from many countries. No matter where we are from, we all have a common goal of being
women educators who educate leaders for our future. Our local sisters, just like educators around the globe, work
as a team to build relationships and comradery, This spirit of cooperation and sisterhood, so much a part of Delta Kappa
Gamma, will help us meet the challenges facing educators today.
