The Delta Kappa Gamma Society Chapter Charter for Alpha Chi was signed on March 10, 1934, by Norma Smith, national president, and Mary Henderson, national corresponding secretary, to serve women educators in six communities/school districts; Burnet, Marble Falls, Llano, Lampasas, Lometa, and San Saba. Member signatures included on the original charter are: Mrs. Georgia Carver, Mrs. Sallie Churchill, Mrs. Velma Elliott, Mrs. Lorena Draper Hughes, Mrs. Jerry Blasienz, Mrs. Gail Kolberg, Mrs. Marian Smith Steves, Mrs. Leona Ward Ulbricht, Mrs. L.A. Weir, Mrs. A. L. Nanney, Mrs. Christine H. Grace, and Mrs. Jessie Theis.
The meetings were held on Saturday mornings with breakfast or at noon with lunch, served by the hostess group or in the evenings with dinner or refreshments.
On September 19, 1964, Alpha Chi formed a Sister Chapter--Eta Omicron-- from members in Lampasas and San Saba counties. The two chapters agreed to meet together twice each year--one a Christmas party and the other a May picnic. These were enjoyable activities for several years.
On May 5, 1951, the chapter voted to award a $50 scholarship (rotated among the six school districts) to a young lady attending college and pursuing a career in teaching. Money for this scholarship was raised by assessing each member $0.25 each time she was absent, no matter the reason for the absence. At the present time, Alpha Chi continues to award a $500 scholarship (rotated among the current three school districts) to a junior or senior female college student preparing to enter the teaching profession. In addition, Alpha Chi awards a $1,000 scholarship in each of the three school districts to a female who is working toward a degree or certification related to the teaching profession. Patsy's Legacy Grant awards $500 each to different school projects within the Burnet, Llano, and Marble Falls Communities. A total of $5000 in grants is given each year.
Alpha Chi turned seventy-five on the tenth of March, 2009. On the twenty-fifth of March, we were invited to the Senate Chambers of the Capitol where Senator Troy Fraser honored us with a Senate Resolution.
Alpha Chi has continued to add outstanding women educators to it chapter.
